Antique 1800's Oval #4 Mark Cast Iron 21 Griddle Warmer Sad Iron Holder. Produced by an unknown foundry in the 1800's. Measures 22 1/8" x 9 1/8" x 1 1/8 deep.
From what I have read was originally intended to hold multiple sad irons to keep them warm. Can make wonderful griddles for pancakes, eggs, steaks, biscuit, etc. Has what I think is a gate mark on the bottom.
A Gate Mark appears as a raised "scar" or "slash" across the bottom of many different pieces of cast iron cookware. The Gate Mark is a remnant of the casting process that was used in the 1800's. Found in old closet at my Grandmother's 1800's home.
