Columbus Iron Works was founded in Columbus, Georgia in 1853 and remained in operation until 1965, with subsidiary portions of the company still in operation today under different names. From my research, it appears that the majority of the kitchen / cooking items that were produced by the company were in their early years, with later production focusing more on ice machines and tools / implements.
The company did begin producing barbeque grills in the 1950s, but I believe this pan to be from the earlier years. Do your own research if you wish as I don't claim to be a cast iron expert. The pan measures 21" in length from tip of handle to tip of handle, and 11 1/2" in width. The rim of the pan stands 3 3/4" in height, with the bottom of the pan being raised on approximately 3/4" legs. The bottom of the pan is marked C-S-7 and the interior of the lid is marked C-S-8. The lid has rings of dots on the interior, which work as a self-basting system when roasting meat in the pan. I seasoned for the first time today so they are ready to use when they arrive! Quite possible these were never used! The Columbus Iron Works Vintage Made in USA Cast Iron Legged Roasting Pan with Lid! Would make a great camp pot! How about some pork and beans over an open fire?
