COUSANCES Early 6 Qt. Brown Cast Iron Oval DOUFEU Dutch Oven (#16) France

Here we have a wonderful early model brown enameled cast iron oval "DOUFEU" OVEN POT (#16) by COUSANCES of France merged with LE CREUSET a while back. It is in good to very good maintained (used) condition with no chips, cracks or warping.

It has not been cleaned since acquired (no need, previous owner kept it clean) and is being offered in "as found" condition currently showing some interior bottom light enamel stains or discoloration (see closeup photos #5, 7, 8, 9)... Which are not offensive, also a few very minor exterior bottom surface scuffs/cook spots here and there... All in all it appears to have had less than normal use.

The exterior brown enamel (darker brown blending into a slightly lighter brown) is complimented with a beige/tan enamel interior. The lid top is marked with a slightly raised "DOUFEU O" and the underside is marked with the number "16" along with many dripping points. The non-enameled bottom pot is marked, COUSANCES 16 MADE IN FRANCE. A doufeu is a baking. Vessel with a concave lid.

The shape of the lid allows the cook to place ice on the top of the vessel, cooling the steam inside and condensing it to drip back down on the food being cooked. Is derived from the French language. Items in a doufeu are generally cooked slowly which, combined with the marinating effect of the condensation, results in moist and flavorful dishes.

This enameled cast iron Doufeu heats evenly, retains the heat, and with consistent care it will last a lifetime. Came from a private home collection of many years, however the exact age is unknown... Or so for the packing box and packing material.

Box will be large due to.
